"Urban futures for an extended life - the sustainability and technology implications of centenarians" - a mini seminar Deadline for registration: 30 November 2009
This workshop is to explore research needs and opportunities with an emphasis on sustainability and innovation. The mini-seminar will include primer presentations to outline the issues and demographics, a discussion panel to lift research questions and needs and a workshop to develop clear recommendations to the AGS.

AGS Annual Meeting 2009, ETHZ, Switzerland, organised jointly with the ETH Competence Centre for Environment and Sustainability (CCES)
Meeting theme : "Urban Futures - the challenge of sustainability"
This year, the AGS is sponsoring the participation costs of 10 participants from developing countries at its Annual Meeting 2009. The sponsorship will cover travel and accomodation from Sunday 25 Jan to Thursday 29 Jan - to a maximum of Swiss Franc 2000:- (roughly USD 1800 or Euro 1250). The conference fee will be waived. Accepted participants will be asked to present a poster. More information is available below as pdf.

AGS Urban Future Initiative Seminar, Cape Town, South Africa
organised jointly with Cape Peninsula University of Technology
"Integrating sustainability into African urban growth"
The aim of this seminar is to provide an African perspective on Urban Futures. The Keynote Address will be given by Dr. Mamphela Ramphele. Dr. Ramphele is an important South African personality since her involvement in the anti-apartheid movement.
As for the other Urban Futures Seminars, the Cape Town seminar will be filmed and available online.

Seminar on "Urban Futures Research: tackling complex reality" at ETH Zürich This seminar will seek to understand the dimensions of research that tackles the complex reality of urban systems, and achieve a better understanding of how interdisciplinary research for more sustainable urban futures must be designed and carried out, using examples from the ETH, EPFL, and research institutes. It will also report on the results of the AGS workshop "Interdisciplinary Dialogue on Urban Futures".
